Today's article is going to be about a man whom I'm grateful to call a dear friend but I also deeply admire his art. Liam Ó Maonlaí is an acclaimed singer, musician and multiinstrumentalist. in 1985 he and guitarist Fiachna Ó Braonáin formed the band Hothouse Flowers that continues to rock to this day, with their latest album Let's Do This Thing released in 2016. There are certain bands that need to be seen live to be understood and Hothouse Flowers are definitely one of them.
The world is full of music and you just can't be familiar with every artist there is. Sometimes you need a friend to recommend you someone whom they think you might like. So today's article is exactly about that. Tallaght songwriter Shane Ó Fearghail has been living in Vienna for some time now. And reason for that? The sweetest of them all - love.
Today's article is going to be about one of my dearest friends. Sometimes you meet someone and you instantly click. And the longer you know each other the better and deeper the friendship gets. And this is exactly the case. J Eoin is gifted and acclaimed singer/songwriter from Limerick, Ireland who spent nearly thirty years living in London before moving back to his native land in July of 2017.
Today I'm going to write about a band whose music deeply touched my heart and soul from the moment I heard it. This band is called Cloud Cult, they come from Minnesota, United States. Not only is their music deeply influenced by religion - not in a way that they would persuade you to believe in God, it's only a manifest of their belief and what it means to them - but they are also environmentally oriented.
This article is going be a little bit different as I didn't have a chance to get to know the artist I'm going to tell you about personally but his music has had a huge impact on me anyway. Michael "Mic" Christopher was an Irish singer/songwriter born in New York on September 21st 1969 to Irish parents. They moved back to Ireland in 1972. Michael began busking on the streets of Dublin at the age of fifteen and it was there he made many friends, including Glen Hansard who became Mic's best friend.
Today we are going to take a trip back in time because it was thanks to the artist I'm going to write about today, that I picked up a guitar and started my musical journey. Sometimes you cross paths with someone who completely changes your direction and your life.
Fergus O'Farrell was an incredibly talented singer, songwriter, artist who founded the cult Irish band Interference three decades ago. He suffered from muscular dystrophy, ended up in wheelchair in his twenties, not being able to play the guitar or piano as the time passed, his voice was the only thing that remained. And without doubt his voice was his greatest gift.
Like last year, my friend Hana and me decided to go to Ireland again. We both love the country the same way and nobody needs to persuade us for long time to return. The main reason for a visit this time? seeing Once, the musical, again. We spent a week in the fair city with different music-related events almost every day.
A Dublin musician Cillian Foster recently released his debut album with his band G.D.C. The album is simply called Volume I. Don't picture a singer/songwriter like Glen Hansard. These two have played together already but Cillian's music style is closer to another Irish songwriter, Mundy, with whom he also already met on one stage.
I wrote this for my friend's blog after our visit of Ireland's capital in August 2016.
Once, the musical
On August 18th me and Hana went to Olympia theatre to see "Once, the musical". You surely know the movie "Once" with Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova. I was lucky to see the musical last year when me and my husband George made a journey around Ireland. We were curious about the play and didn't really know what to expect. We knew it will be great but it exceeded our expectations. Even after all this time I can't find the right words that would describe it. The fact that the play takes place in Dublin and you see it in Dublin theatre, gets you.
