Without Willow are an Irish acoustic folk duo from Co Donegal, Ireland. The pair got to the semifinal of the International Songwriting Competiton with their song "The Heather Field" in 2019 and also got to the final of all Ireland Christie Hennessy song contest in 2019 with the same song. The pair consisting of Karen Kelly and Simon McCafferty blend haunting, heartfelt vocals with virtuoso guitar playing to create a distinctive sound that has established them as firm favourites on the Donegal music scene.
Their new single Nightingale is a delicate, evocative ballad. The fingerpicked guitar accompanied by the strings and the piano set the atmosphere for Karen Kelly's angelic vocal. She is channelling Candice Night with this ethereal piece that defines time and takes you to the lands of fairies and dreams. There's a hint of sadness in the vocal delivery, enhanced by the strings. The haunting arrangement makes you feel all the emotions even without the vocals.
