Strings & Things - Walking in the air (single)
Strings & Things are a four-piece neo-trad band based in Tipperary with one member in Galway who meld genres of rock, folk, pop, and trad to create their unique sound. They have been entertaining the audiences with energetic live performances, a huge repertoire of traditional music, and thoughtful, innovative original music. Their second album dubbed “The Unsolicited Dance” which is due for release in the near future. The band is currently managed by Impact Promotions Ireland. Walking in the air is their Christmas single, a follow up to the previous release Fuaim Gathering. It features a guest artist Caoimhe Maher.
Right from the start, the guitar and the flute evoke festive sensation, the female vocal brings a bit of storytelling (how appropriate for the Irish). As the song develops, it becomes more dynamic, adding more instruments to the arrangements and adding harmonies. It has the feel of a trad song with a modern twist, exactly what Strings & Things are known for. Even their contagious energy is there.
If this song won't put you into a festive spirit and cheer you up, we don't know what would. Cheerful and haunting at the same time. Very fitting to this time of the year that can be quite emotional.
