Music from the Heart

Soda Blonde - Love Me World (single)

If the staggering vocals of this Dublin group sound familiar, it’s because they are. Soda Blonde was formed last year by four members of the critically acclaimed Little Green Cars, whose debut album (produced by Marcus Dravs) hit the Number One spot in Ireland and saw them gain a coveted spot on the BBC Sound Of poll. Now producing the music themselves, whilst also creating all the artwork and visuals, Faye O’Rourke, Adam O’Regan, Dylan Lynch, Donagh Seaver O’Leary’s new project finds them operating as fully fledged polymaths.Their debut EP, Terrible Hands which was released at the end of last year. In support of this, the group performed a series of sold out shows in their hometown, toured across Ireland and played 2 UK shows in Manchester and London, leading to them being asked to support Sinead O’Connor at her Iveagh Gardens show (now postponed to the summer of 2021). The band released a brand new EP  during lockdown and now they are back with the follow up, Love Me World.

The new single opens with the intriguing beats and sweet vocals of the lead singer. Faye O'Rourke. As the song develops, it blossoms into a relaxing pop composition. Something that puts the listener at ease. You stop following the outside world for a while and this is more than welcome in these troubled times. But the looks can be deceiving. Even the title suggests more than meets the eye.

The song has the dreamy ambient vibe that we'd say is a trademark of Soda Blonde. The synths take us back into the 90s but in a remarkable way. This is a nice mix of old school sound and poignant lyrics addressing universal issues (in this case dark desires and its effects)

"will you be my orphan love and when it gets tough I'll give you away"

Don't you think that such lyrics are craving attention or perhaps even affection?
