Kandemic - 2020 (single)
In the midst of a global pandemic, and what we can only call a crushing year for so many, four musicians got together to kill some time by making music. It had been their passion individually for decades. And with what felt like never-ending lockdowns, the one thing they had was time. With diverse experience and backgrounds in folk, rock, hip hop and reggae, the music started to take shape, and Kandemic was born. With everything going on in the world, it became clear from the very start that Kandemic had a lot to say and a story to tell. As one lockdown was followed by another, the band kept writing and recording music. And six months and thousands of cans of beer later, Kandemic realised they had an album in their hands and a message from far beyond the stars. Rock, punk, hip hop and reggae, and swapping between English and Italian languages, Kandemic's sound picks from the past and sets out to make something new. Band members from Helsinki, Milan, Rome and Venice now call Dublin their home.
The production team consists of Killabase (ShotgunMunkeyz, Sudalicious ), Zar Acoustic (Headtrip Acoustic Project, Counter Intelligence), J.P. Kallio (Sliotar, Boneyard Bastards, Liberty Hell) and Nik Martken (Headtrip Acoustic Project, Krude Band). On March 28th 2021, on a day of a super full moon, Kandemic is releasing their first single. And for the following year, Kandemic will release a new track with every full moon.
The first release is simply called 2020 and it's something that goes under the skin. We all know what the past year was like, we all are learning new things, new approaches, trying to maintain the positive attitude, hoping for the light through all the darkness. Despite all the negativity, Kandemic try to shed light on the brighter moments. Lines such as "don't give up 2020" or "grief and deceit has been plenty" send chills down your spine. You realize how real and how true this is. Nail on the head.
The Italian language part of the song is truly refreshing and intesifies the impact. In today's world the majority of artists sing in English yet when somebody choses a different language, it's even more exciting. And Kandemic are definitely building a promising future for themselves.
