Demi Michelle Schwartz is a pop and country songwriter from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. From a young age, she has surrounded herself with music, playing piano, singing her favorite songs, and going to as many concerts as possible. While in college, she discovered her passion for songwriting and decided to turn her experiences into lyrics. The thought of writing a new song is always in her mind, and she can’t resist typing lyrics into her phone and recording melody ideas when she’s inspired. Her songs hold an authenticity that shows who she is, staying true to herself as a songwriter. Demi Michelle doesn’t hold back in her new single, “Afterthought,” a record that she likes to call a sass-infused genre melting pot with an infectious groove.
“I had the most fun writing and recording ‘Afterthought’ because this song is totally different from my previous releases. The best way to describe it is pop-funk with subtle flavors of country and rock.”
“Afterthought” was inspired by situations where Demi felt like others were reaching out or inviting her places out of sympathy or as a last resort. It’s not fun feeling like an afterthought, so Demi channeled attitude to write this song. This record shimmers with a groovy baseline, danceable guitar rhythm, powerful pop percussion, and layers of background vocals. The instrumentation, artistic choices, and dynamic nature of the song create an immersive journey that emphasizes the empowering message and bold lyrics.
“Afterthought” is going to be the first track on Demi’s upcoming five-track EP, It Is What It Is. The project is coming later this year.
