Davie Furey - The Rose of Bohermeen (single)
To conclude a busy year that began with the release of "Stargazer" and a spring tour with legendary Paul Brady, singer/songwriter Davie Furey comes with a seasonal offering - a love that has at its starting point a girl in a midnight choir "that Christmas long ago."
Producer, mixed and master by Martin Quinn at JAM Studios, Davie's haunting melody with the words by Bohemeen born playwright Richard Ball, combine seamlessly in the kind of performance that we have come to expect from Furey. This is what he said about the song " It came as a complete surprise to me. I have never recorded a song I haven't written so to be able to work on The Rose of Bohemeen with my former English teacher Richie Ball was a great joy. I was enthused by the story behind the lyrics and it was a great privilege to be able to Richie's beautiful, gentle lyrics to music."
Richard adds " The Rose of Bohermeen recalls an aunt I never knew who used to sing with her younger brother, my dad, at Christmas midnight mass may years ago. It's the only story he ever told of her. She died at seventeen. I am a huge admirer of Davie's work so I was delighted that he not only liked the words but agreed to put them to music and record the song. He has worked his magic here.I am more than grateful."
The nostalgy containted within the track is palpable from the arrangement. Furey's evocative delivery gives the listener goosebumps, take them back in time, make them think of those gone but always present. This track proves once again that emotions and authenthicity are the winning combination, You don't really need more than that. There's an element of mystery in the lyrics, presenting a tale of someone who seemed like a beautiful soul yet not many knew her deeply. The tale of love, loss and hope is equally enchanting and heartbreaking.
