Music from the Heart

Craggy Collyde - The House Next Door

Craggy Collyde is a British/Slovak alternative rock 'n' roll band based in Brno, Czech Republic. The band combines a love of various creative influences to create something that explores the boundaries of alternative rock and roll whilst always retaining an uncompromising and intense energy. The story began in a bar in Brno, where Craggy and Veronika shared a vision for an electrifying and innovative music project that would draw inspiration from a multitude of creative influences.

In 2018, Craggy Collyde arrived on the scene with their highly acclaimed debut 7" single, "Sorry Now", accompanied by the barn-storming B-side, "Go Ahead And Break Me", which quickly gained popularity as a dynamic live favourite. 2020 marked a significant milestone for the band with the release of their mini-album "Wrapped Up In Ribbons". This release showcased their creativity and introduced a diverse range of alternative sounds, blending a symphony of noise and melodies into their work. The band quickly evolved into a trio in 2022, bringing Tom on board. "The House Next Door" is their debut album.

Opening track Do You Dream? carries The Doors-esque darkness in the moody intro and even in the vocal before it develops into an upbeat number with some ear-catching grooves.  However, there are some existential thoughts within, such as " there's nothing beneath you now so let go".

A high-octane ride speeds up as we dive deeper into the album. On the positive side, you are able to understand what Craggy is singing about, every single time. Even in the quickiest of tracks. Big advantage and a rare feature  these days.A true rocker, Craggy doesn't leave any doubt where his musical heart lies.

Title track The House Next Door, has a dark aura somewhat but there is a lovely guitar riff and the storytelling gets you immediately. The male and female vocal harmony has turned into the trademark of this trio.

The love for experimenting and exploration is clearly evident in Buried at Sea, which feels like a fusion of different genres but fits very well together and the result is loud and energetic but the lyrics do not loose their impact either. This is important as Craggy Collyde create songs with a meaning. Songs that have something to say. The cello makes an interesting sonic addition here. Thought-provoking lines such as "how does it feel when you wear that crown? is it weïghing  you down? there is no true in what you say" are more than just lines in the song. Satire perhaps?

When You Call is one of the standouts on the album if it was possible to pick something up in such a ecclectic collection. But this melodic rock track with a powerful message {an uneasy feeling of finality included) has everything a rock music enthusiast would enjoy. And beyond.

Waiting for the Summer is a calling for warmer and brighter times, there's anxiety, trying to hang on and survive the cold dark winter till sunny days arrive.

I Know It's Over could very well turn into a classic in not too distant future. The melody creeps into your head and  before you know it, you find yourself tapping your feet and humming it.

Craggy Collyde have already made their mark on the music map yet they're just getting started. The future looks bright.
