Col Patterson is an Irish songwriter. Born in England to Irish parents, Col moved to Ireland at a very young age.The young Elvis mad Col played piano by ear before he could walk! He joined various local bands, whilst always writing his own songs in his bedroom. Col's mental health suffered greatly after a random one-punch assault, which changed the course of his life. In 2015, along with his cousins, Col Patterson formed ‘The Vinylheads’ and recorded an album with legendary Irish producer Martin Quinn at Jam Studios. The Album 'Kicks’ was released that year to critical acclaim, with songs receiving airplay on RTÉ Radio 1, Newstalk & BBC 6Music, the title track being Tom Robinson’s personal “Recommends” pick. Col and his cousins played the ‘Fortstock’ festival in Monaghan supporting Midge Ure.
In 2017, Col Patterson released his debut album ‘Hangover Moon’ under his own name. Singles such as ‘Glide’, ‘Hard To Believe’ and ‘Angels on the Wave’ were championed by John Creedon, Cathal Murray and co on RTE Radio One, and once again reviews were very kind! This Album received 4/5 stars in a review by Tony Clayton-Lea of The Irish Times: "Hangover Moon is Patterson in a solo capacity, and it’s a much more private experience, as the songs touch on acutely personal topics (including loss, injustice, love, mental health, family). The narrative load, however, is lessened somewhat by a collection of remarkably poised, crisp, and light-fingered tunes that will have you whistling away without permission. There are many highlights, including Angels on the Wave, Woodshed, Hard to Believe, the title track and Big Lie World, each of which have a sunburst pop finish that belies their sober, saying-it-like-it-is lyrics."
“Heart Listens Out” is a single by Col Patterson about the battle between heart and mind. Col says "Especially in these troubled times, we all need to find ways to cope-we all seek sanctuary in different places. This track is about these choices."
The song is produced by Col’s long-time producer, Martin Quinn. His previous single “Lilytown” was well received and featured on Rte Radio One’s Recommends list ,as well as being playlisted by KFM, Dublin City Fm and played on Newstalk, Kclr, Midlands 103 and LMFM. "Heart Listens Out" made it to the RTE Radio 1 Recommends list as well. Col's next Album “Dare You Come to Mind” will be released in 2022.
The arrangement of the song is based on piano and drums, Patterson's vocal is warm, honest, he's wearing the heart on his sleeve, not hiding anything. There's an element of impatience felt in the lyrics and throughout the song that makes you wait for the resolution. Patterson is no stranger to the art of songwriting and he shows his ability to blend a seemingly cheerful or light-hearted melody with lyrics dealing with more serious matter. The result leaves the listener with a happy heart and a thought or two in the head.

A PROBLEM AT SEA
MY HOUR OF NEED"
