Music from the Heart

Carlsbad - Still Life (single)

Carlsbad is a singer/songwriter hailing from Cowboy Country, (USA) now based in Dublin, Ireland.  Having opened for Saint Sister in April (Monroe’s Live in Galway, Live at St. Luke’s in Cork and Dolan’s, Limerick) she is now ready to share the first single 'Still Life' from her debut EP 'Future Yeehaw' which is out this October. Future Yeehaw’ is exactly as it sounds, a post modern blend of electronic, pop, folk and country.
Produced by David Anthony Curley (The Cope, The Clinic Recording Studios) and Duncan Stewart (Dunx), the record features performances  from the likes of Dylan Lynch (Soda Blonde) on drums and Gemma Doherty (Saint Sister) on harp.  Mixed by Brandon Bost (Florence+the Machine, Maggie Rogers, Norah Jones), Future Yeehaw’ is a soundtrack to a neon western painted dreamscape, and Electric Picnic will provide the perfect backdrop for Carlsbad’s live debut. Following on from 'Still Life', Carlsbad will release single 'Lemon Pie' this September followed by her 4 track EP 'Future Yeehaw' this October, with MCD on board to do a small Dublin headliner (Date TBC).
Still Life is a song that explores ambition, the excitement that surrounds starting a new venture, and pursuing a love interest. Questioning why we get caught up in whatever we’re caught up in... "Meanwhile, I’m just here floating, chasing the good feelings, Drinking warm water and spitting ice cubes."
"The six string Fender bass features heavily on the EP and this is it's debut. I played my Fender strat heavy handed on a tremolo pedal. Duncan Stewart layered loads of beautiful guitar riffs using electric, acoustic and Nash tuning. We got really experimental with the percussive elements, Dylan Lynch lit a match into the microphone, hitting the Wurlitzer bench with drum brushes to mimic rattlesnakes. David and I were sampling gunshots and lightning. Gemma added diaphanous harp and backing vocals."

The deep and dark intro may remind the listener of a song or two they heard before. But the rest is completely unique. Dreamy soundscapes form the base for Carlsbad's vocal, strongly reminiscent of Soda Blonde's Faye O'Rourke. Gentle, confident delivery carrying all the emotions and life experience of the singer.

"Holding flames on my fingertips
Like water droplets
Lit rose quartz burn to citrine
Like kerosene"
