Basciville are a multi-instrumental folk/indie duo, originating from Co. Wexford, Ireland thatcame to be in 2016, when brothers Cillian and Lorcan Byrne finally took the plunge and began creating music together. Since that time the duo has formulated their own unique blend of rhythm and blues with jazz, folk and orchestral harmony. They recently supported acclaimed violinist Colm Mac Con Iomaire at the launch of his third solo album The River Holds Its Breath (Tost ar an Abhainn) - and also were involved with making of this album. On May 3rd 2019, Basciville will release their brand new single ‘Post Youth’. Basciville are currently recording their second EP, which will be released in 2019. The as yet unnamed EP will be supported by a full Irish and European tour.
The new single Post-Youth is a dreamy atmospheric track with haunting vocals, sonically taking inspiration from a gothic R&B sound, namely Stevie Wonder’s ‘Pastime Paradise’ and the music of James Black.
It aims to bring together a raw ‘unpolished’ energy with a modern production, mainly though the intense intimacy of the vocal, a challenge to the listener as much as a play for their attention. Lyrically it is a song about the dangers of relying too much on the perceived logical, intelligible word, or over analytical post-modernist views.
Post-Youth might mark a new musical direction for these artists but this can only mean one thing - more magic. Drop everything you're doing and let the beauty enter your lives.
