Music from the Heart

5th Machine - Back in Time

5th Machine is Brazilian melodic rock band. Their music will take the listener on a journey back in time. Even the cover of their debut album Back In Time, showing an image of a steam locomotive, ilustrates the sensation of travelling. That maybe a bit weird yet welcoming in current climate. So pack your bags and get ready for the ride!

The album opens with the self-titled track, 5th Machine. Sharp guitar riffs truly stand out. The lead singer's phrasing is clear so you can understand what he's saying. This might not be the most important thing in the given genre but there are always listeners who give more importance to the lyrics than the music, regardless the style. There are some good guitar solos on the track, opening the album in a remarkable fashion.

Most of the songs deal with relationship from various angles but without too much sentiment. It gives more of positive outcome even from the story of breakups and broken hearts.

The Song of a Beggar starts with a gentle piano and more delicate vocals,  bringing the nostalgic feeling in before the electric guitar and drums change the vibe again. The spoken word part takes the song to a different, more intimate level. Interesting to see how the two concepts can go together so well.

Another track starting nicely with a piano is Until the End of Time. The title might suggest something overromantic but don't get fooled. Yes there are elements of a romance but the song maintains the rock vibe fans of the genre expect. Nothing for vulnerable souls.

Say No to Time is a hard rock classic to the core. It has everything you need, catchy riffs, intriguing solos, a beat you can bang your head to.

We mentioned the trip back in time earlier on and the track that proves to be summing it up is Dreaming Nights. It surely has the vibe of the 80s and it would make a great soundtrack of a movie from that period.
